I found a couple more of the more popular portal web sites (CMS), and I found using Google Trends that DotNetNuke is still at the bottom of the "trends" shown on Google. Hmmm... I then took DotNetNuke out of the trend and here are the results.

I found out about Google Trends some time ago and I briefly played with its features, but I had forgotten about it until today when I read about it again in my current issue of Maximum PC. In reading it, I finally thought of a good reason for me to use it.

We have all noticed in our places of employment times when we look at the actions of a manager, director, or officer within the organization and thought something like "what are they thinking?" At worse times, this supervisor may be your own. Experiencing this from your own supervisor firsthand will indeed have a lasting effect on your life. If you have ever had any leadership training, this impact would likely be multiplied several times over.

I just came across a topic that I know I MUST let you know about. I have blogged about parenting one time before. I am going to do so again. However, I should do it much more often. Watch any news program or playground and you will be slapped in the face with how obvious it is that the word parent is no longer applicable to most of today's "guardians".

I recently needed to retrieve Tab information from a URL for the Google Search Provider I am writing for DotNetNuke. (You can translate "tab" information into "page" information if you are not familiar with the term.)

I cannot seem to get the class I wrote for the Google Search Provider for DotNetNuke to get created in the reflection process. Argh!!! It keeps telling me that there is a missing method, but I have created all of the methods that the inherited SearchDataStoreProvider class required me to. I also bounced what I did against the core search provider and everything seems to be in order, but I cannot get past the *censored for your benefit* error that you will see on the linked post. :(

Okay... I vented and now I feel better! :)

Not that any of you out there care as much as I do, but my daughter will be coming back to visit this week. I am really excited! I expect development to slow down tremendously while she is here. I have begun writing what I hope is to become a Google Appliance Search Provider for DotNetNuke. I have looked (Googled) for such a provider for several weeks now so that I might save some development time, but no such luck yet. The good thing is that I will be able to make this provider do what I want it to from the beginning. :)

I was recently asked for pictures of my truck. To give you a bit of background on it, the bearings were bad in the original engine, so I was forced to let my truck sit for a while. Well, two and a half years later, several thousand dollars later and many new parts later (including an engine), you can see what she looks like now in my picture gallery. Enjoy! (If the pictures suck, blame my girlfriend. It was her first time using our new camera.)

While performing some upgrades after finding out that the FCKeditor integration for DotNetNuke has been released, I realized that I forgot something in my original blog on this topic.

ARGH!!! I have been having the worst time trying to install Microsoft SQL Server 2005 on my development machine at home. Since I had already been burned in the BETA initiation when I installed at work, I already knew to uninstall any .Net 2.0 development software before I began installation (BETA or not).

I have learned an extraodinary amount of information during the last few months in rolling out DotNetNuke to an entire school district. While the rollout is only in its initial phase, there have been some interesting developments.

My girlfriend and I went to BackBooth in downtown Orlando on Sunday (5/8/2006) to see our favorite group play for Emergenza, an international battle of the bands. You won't see Metallica here though. This is all local music playing for the honor of being the best.

Well, it has been (once again) a while since I last posted. A bunch of cool things have happened. My new job is going well, I got my truck fixed and repainted (photos to come soon), and I have been working (which is playing to me) hard.

Well, today was my first day at a new job. After being there for 5 years, it was a tough decision to make. I will miss you guys (and gals). For now on thoughout my entire blog, whenever you see me refer to guys or you guys, please know that I am referring to my beloved friends at my previous employer.

This past week or so, Curious George opened in theaters across the country. I must say, that whatever I say here is biased since I am an avid Curious George merchandise collector already.

Have you heard of Google Pages?

Right now, I am building a new web site for my girlfriend. Those of us who are in the business of building web sites are constantly looking at security. One of those security areas are login pages. This is one of the more popular avenues of attack by many hackers. And why not? If the hacker and/or his software can just guess a username and password combo and get in to mess things up, then why bother with trying to get access to the database directly? Unless there are deeper motivations... However, I am not too concerned with those motivations on my girlfriend's family site. There shouldn't be any credit card or ssn numbers in her database. Hehehe...

Woo hoo! After a horrible battle with my current web host, previous web host, and the online registrar of my domain, I finally have everything up and running! It only took a month.

First of all, sorry that I haven't posted in a while. I know all of my readers (namely - ME) have missed me deeply. I hope to find more time to release thoughts and whatnot soon. If you are a web developer who deals with some kind of server-side programming, I am sure that at some point or another you will find this post useful.

There are many instances where you might want to either write all of the items in the Server Variables collection, or at least be able to step through them. For instance, you may want to know use this information as part of the text returned from a feedback form to let you know what the user's settings and referring URL were. Or, perhaps you want to know this information as part of an error handling schema you have developed.

I was on my way back from lunch with a couple co-workers and we were coming up on a gas station. Immediately, one of them got excited and exclaimed, "Gas is $2.19 here!" Our gas situation for the past 6 years has been very upsetting for me. The most obvious reason would of course be the amount of money that we keep having to fork out for gasoline. The secondary reason is because I know something CAN and SHOULD be done about it by our government. Gee, I wonder why nothing has been done...

I just read a quote in MaximumPC from a game developer. If it is true, then my nightmares of customer service extinction are true as well.

I have read several articles recently about a bill going through and getting passed in the house "preventing teens from buying violent or sexually explicit games". If you just leave it at that, then it sounds wonderful, right? How about NO! What is really happening is the so-called "hands-off" republican and conservative base looking for more brownie points during their politcal career. There used to be a time when these types of things were left to the discretion and responsibility of parents.

This is the same type of person that will run a red light 2 seconds after it turns. By the way, I know who this is. He preaches cancer awareness and wears a Lance Armstrong bracelet, but smokes whenever he gets a chance. There is a word for that, but and not sure if I can say it...

Customer service is something that each and every consumer once took for granted. Now, most business owners, and supervisors wouldn't recognize it was if it hit them in their groins. It has seemingly become an endangered species.

I just watched Elektra on DVD last night. Although I didn't pay attention when grabbing the DVD and I grabbed the Full Screen copy - I still enjoyed it. I fully intended to see it in the theater, but it proved to not be my fate. Instead, I watched in the leisure of my home with my family and our wonderful surround sound. As Tim Allen would say, "Oh-oh-oh..."
